I visited Tortuguero National Park on the last day of my stay in Costa Rica. If I had to describe it in one word: monkeys. As in: a recurring theme you'll see throughout this post. Just to note, however, that the park is named for the abundance of turtles that nest on its beaches, from the months of February to July. Since near the beginning of the season, I wasn't lucky enough to see turtles. Although rumor has it that they only come out at night, anyhow.
Getting up early in the morning, we embarked on the hours-long journey to the park from Costa Rica.
Prior to lunch, our guide for the day handed out some surprising delicious yuca chips. Not sure how healthy they are (but calories-wise they're ok), but it. was. good.
Breakfast: three kinds of tropical fruit very commonly found in Costa Rica, and the standard fare of rice, beans, fried plantains, with the addition of toast and eggs.
Right outside the restaurant - a fruit stand: I'm actually not sure what it is they're selling here, but it made for a great picture...
Pineapples and lychees (right)! Lychees are actually delicious - luckily the stand owner was giving out free samples.
Steamed tomatoes?
Tortuguero Village
One thing I recommend as a must try in the village - fresh, cold coconuts! Click video below to see how the guy removes the whites for a snack after you drink the water.
Coconut whites, by the way, VERY filling.
The Beach:
One of few resorts that are situated in the national park. Though we did not stay in one, we went to one for lunch:
Because I sort of figured, how could one go to Costa Rica and not zip-line...and I wasn't hungry at all from having the coconut whites earlier, I decided to try it out here...
